The fortified medieval village of Chiusdino sits on top of a hill about 30 km from Siena. Views of Siena and the famous roofless San Galgano abbey can be enjoyed from the village. The surrounding area is known for its historical and artistic sites, such as Volterra, Arezzo, San Giminiano, Monteriggioni, and Radicondoli, as well as many wineries, fine cuisine and hot springs. The famous roofless abbey of San Galgano is located amongst the green valleys between Siena and the sea. It is in a central position to reach both the Tuscan medieval towns and the wild coast of the Tirrenian. The area is ideal for hiking, biking, river swimming and hot springs treatments. The hot springs of Terme di Petriolo is only 30 min. away and is open year round. Chiusdino is surrounded by the natural reserves of the Farma and Merse rivers. It is possible to swim in both these rivers. Chiusdino is close to the Chianti Classico wine country and wineries and tasting rooms such asRadda, Scansano and the famous Brunello di Montalcino are all within a short distance.
